Transportation accidents are prevalent, and often times, we need to reconstruct what occurred. Animations and simulations are vital resources to use in re-enacting the incident in order to view and effectively communicate and calculate the subject incident.
With the above being stated, we specialize in Accident Reconstruction of the vehicle or other avenues of transportation as well as work with the Biomechanics and Human Factors of the individual(s). We have produced and created over 200 automotive simulations.
In the event of an automobile collision, it is important to understand whether the associated forces and accelerations would be sufficient to cause injuries. To illustrate the series of events generally occurring during a collision, the Lab has implemented a bumper-car model that exhibits similar characteristics to an automobile. By equipping our test subject with an electromechanical accelerator, the real-time acceleration data during an impact simulation can be translated into simple wave graphs of G-forces. This approach can also be implemented in measuring the G-forces in typical daily activities, so that the forces can be compared to those experienced during an automobile collision.
CRASH DATA RETRIEVAL
The Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System is a proven tool that allows Collision Reconstructionists (investigating vehicle crashes) the opportunity to image crucial crash data parameters from a vehicle that has been in an accident. This crash data, which is stored in the vehicle’s airbag control module, may be used to make informed decisions about the accident based on the crash data "imaged" from the vehicle in question.
The benefits of CDR include: valuable crash evidence stored in the vehicle; obtain pre-crash vehicle data, vehicle speed, delta- v crash severity, seat belt status, throttle position, when the break was applied, ignition cycles, and a proven track record of admissibility at trial. Additionally, CDR reports can also potentially contain change in velocity information and crash pulse data.
The Institute of Risk & Safety Analyses uses the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Software and Hardware to download crash data from supported vehicles. The Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Software and Hardware products support the retrieval of crash data from AirbagControl Modules (ACM), Roll-over Sensors (ROS), and Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) installed in supported vehicles.
AUTOMOTIVE SIMULATION
A van fails to stop at a stop sign and collides with oncoming traffic. The van takes a tight turn onto the highway indicating he had no intention of stopping.
In heavy traffic, the number one and two lanes stopped to allow a vehicle to make a left-turn. The vehicle did not check the number three lane resulting in a collision.
